Arcollab‘s “Jack Up The Box” pop-up store concept was selected winner of the DesignByMany’s latest challenge: “A Pop-Up Retail Store”. Vertical retractable drawers embedded within the raised store allow shoppers to inhabit the space underneath, redefining the shopping experience. Judges Carmen Trudell, Daniel Kidd, and Giancarlo Valle reviewed over 40 entries before selecting the winning proposal. For winning the HP-supported challenge, RPGS will take home a brand-new HP Designjet T790 24″ PostScript ePrinter.
“Jack Up The Box” Project Description by RPGS:
Our design challenges the conventional notion of pop up retail by elevating the mass of the store in order to liberate the floor plane. This preserves the qualities of the site upon which the store is placed and conditions the space underneath it as the “lobby” of the store. This allows for not only free interaction between consumers but also enables an entirely new shopping experience.
The vertical retractable drawers which are embedded within the cube are organized in a stratified organizational configuration with smaller sizes placed at the bottom, and larger sizes placed at the top. These drawers can be enabled once the Jack Up The Box has been transported to the site and “jacked up.” Thus, our store can accommodate a wide variety of product types, from shoes and hats, to tee shirts and electronic products.
The surface of the box serves as a canvas for branding, which attracts customers. When it is closed, the surface can be used to project movies, defining a cultural space around it.
